The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a CII project aimed at building an ecological India and promoting sustainable development in the built environment sector, has granted ARC Institute of Technical Education an honorary status. As part of this collaboration, a "IGBC Student Chapter" was formed to raise awareness of green buildings among the student population and to inspire young people to think green. This achievement has primarily helped to encourage and promote sustainability led initiatives amongst our students..
The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) was formed in the year 2001. The vision of the council is, "To enable a sustainable built environment for all and facilitate India to be one of the global leaders in the sustainable built environment by 2025".
The council offers a wide array of services which include developing new green building rating programmes, certification services and green building training programmes. The council also organises Green Building Congress, its annual flagship event on green buildings.
The council is committee-based, member-driven and consensus-focused. All the stakeholders of construction industry comprising of architects, developers, product manufacturers, corporate, Government, academia and nodal agencies participate in the council activities through local chapters. The council also closely works with several State Governments, Central Government, World Green Building Council, bilateral multi-lateral agencies in promoting green building concepts in the country.
IGBC will supply students with books for library reference, such as newsletters, technical bulletins, and reference guides of IGBC rating systems, and will also have visiting faculty educate students on related subjects as part of this project. An "IGBC Student Chapter" assists in spreading green building awareness within the student population and in instilling the concept of green in our ideas.
Activities such as student training sessions, presentations and lectures by specialists on green buildings will benefit the IGBC Student Chapter. They will also have the opportunity to attend IGBC events and participate in Green Building Missions, as well as receive extensive internship options for students.
CII - Indian Green Building Council - IGBC launched 18th IGBC Student chapter - Arc Institute of Technical Education (ARCITE), Kollam, Kerala. The event was launched through virtual medium by Ar B.R. Ajit, Chairman, IGBC Cochin Chapter.
Ar B.R.Ajit delivered a special address to the students and faculties and Ar Sri Rekha, Counsellor, IGBC gave a detailed presentation on IGBC Green Education. The institution has also taken an innovative Green initiative – ‘PLANT THE FUTURE’ As part of this, for every new admission, the student will be provided a tree sapling which will be planted in his/her name.
Ar B.R.Ajit, Chairman, IGBC Cochin Chapter provided insight on IGBC and its leadership role in building a Greener India. Highlighted IGBC’s vision and its associations with leading institutions across the country. Ar Sri Rekha, Counsellor, IGBC discussed about IGBC Green Education course; Career opportunity and growth prospects in the field of Green Buildings and Sustainability.
As an inaugural initiative of our student chapter, we are excited to announce our first step to our go green initiative 'PLANT THE FUTURE'. Aiming to create awareness from the grassroot level. We believe this small step can create a major impact on our growing community at ARCITE .
All future students of ARCITE will be awarded with a plant as a symbol of sustainable development. This would sow the seed to a new generation of professionals who imparts the importance of sustainable development and eco friendly built environment.
